yaoi fan must read August 8, 2010 Space Girl (Manchester, Uk) i really enjoyed this book and quite pleased to discover as i first thought it was a manga but in fact it was a proper book. it was the ffirst time that i had properly read anything like this and really enjoyed it.
Good for a rainy day February 15, 2010 Tprinces (CA) Well, the book is short, first of all. It stands at a whopping 152 tiny pages, which leads me to believe it was really only half that when it was typed out. As far as the story goes, it's predictable, but fun for a yaoi veteran who just wants an easy going novel. Though the uke did irritate me a bit. If he's not worrying if the seme will dump him or not, he's fretting over controlling his animalistic passion at work. But he didn't irritate me to the point of hating him, thank God.
Really, the only thing that carries it is the sex scenes, upon which the entire premise is based. Don't get me wrong, the sex scenes are great and all, but I've come to expect an actual story out of these books. The characters were really kind of hollow, and just didn't seem real. For example: (SPOILERS) the two men instantly fall in love the moment they see one another, but they don't tell one another until like... three months into it. Now there's a way to do this, and a way to botch it. What really stood out was just the lack of character development in both the antagonists and the protagonists. Not on a "Twilight" level, but it's certainly there. The lack of a climax kind of was annoying as well >.>
All in all, if you want some steamy sex scenes, pick this book up. Just don't expect much other then that. The art is also good, but not breath-taking. I still say that "The Man who doesn't Take Off His Clothes Vol 2" is one of my favorite novels.
Anyway, "Cadged Slave" is mediocre at best. Good for a light read and yaoi smut.
Sweet and very romantic August 15, 2009 Fathom Tsukasa, newly dumped by his boss's ambition to marry the company's heiress, is drowning his sorrows in a drink in a high class hotel bar when gets an invititation to a hotel room by a complete stranger. After 7 consectutive weekends w/ this mysterious stranger who has yet to reveal his name, Tsukasa ends up bitterly finding out one Monday morning his new bosses identity.
While the plot of sleeping w/ a stranger and finding out he's your boss is not completely originally. The author is able to make the story very unique and romantic.
Alot of mistunderstandings occur due to Tsukasa's insecurity and lack of confidence, but he's basically a very good guy who has extremely bad luck w/ his partners and ends up falling for the worst types of guys. Strictly speaking, Tsukasa is completely idealistic in romance. He can only have one partner at a time and he has to be in love w/ them. So it makes his relationship w/ Takeshima hard to bare since he wants to know and love everything about him. But if he does, the cat and mouse game w/ the mystery between them may be over.
The only thing negative I would have to say about this novel is that I wish there were more narrations from Takeshima's thoughts. He's basically too 1-dimensional in this book, while Tsukasa is fully developed and a great uke to feel a lot of sympthathy for.
The smut was also good, and not as dirty as some novels I've read. But it fit their characters.
I really enjoyed this book, and I would highly recommend it. Its definitley worth a re-read.
its ok March 8, 2009 ai chan1 (ca) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
At first I was hesitant to get this BL novel because of the title, I should have listened. Well It does have a nice story ,characters coming through nicely. Its Nice.A mystery lover that ends up the boss and becomes the perfect lover. The conflict of the main character stems from his insecurity of having fleeting relationships . Compared to the other novel I have, the love scenes here are written in a somewhat dry manner .I found myself getting bored reading the sex scenes.
Illustations are ok but i feel it could be better, too bland. When I use the words "ok" and "nice" in a review, it basically means I am not impressed. This book will end up in my resale box.
